Physiological and morphological features that distinguish HASKAP

  • a species native to a variable climate, adapted to the weather conditions prevailing in Poland
  • the plants bloom 3 weeks later than Russian and Canadian forms, this allows for more efficient pollination, reduces the risk associated with severe frosts
  • the shrubs naturally maintain a V-shaped habit, they are characterized by strong growth – one-year shoots grow up to 1m of length
  • a strong root system, overgrowing the substrate to much deeper layers
  • the shrubs maintain a loose habit, they do not develop an excessive number of shoots per year
  • perennial skeletal shoots that build the structure of the shrub do not require renewal, replacement with younger ones as they do not lose conducting properties

The HASKAP fruit

  • it is big, reaching an average weight of about 2.5-3.8 g, sometimes in favorable conditions even 4-6.5 g.
  • the shape of the fruit is close to spherical, oval (no longitudinal, spindle forms)
  • sweet-and-sour taste, without bitterness
  • on the shoots the fruit is distributed in clusters, a few together
  • the fruit ripens almost evenly, it is quite equal in size
  • it has a small and dry stalk scar, this prevents the juice from flowing out after harvesting
  • after picking, the fruit retains firmness for a long time, in refrigerated conditions it can be stored for 2 weeks
